Sam was born July 21, 1925, in Jacksonville, Georgia, to Melvin Studstill and Maggie Studstill. He lived in Jacksonville on the family farm with his parents and two sisters until he graduated high school and was drafted.
Sam was a proud Veteran of the US Army and bravely served in World War II with the 88 Division as a communications technician in Italy. He remained in Italy with the occupational forces before returning home.
After Sam returned to the states he married Mary Seigler, they moved to Macon, and he became a licensed electrician he worked several jobs before partnering and eventually owning his own electrical business. Sam and Mary owned and operated Wildwood County Store on Zebulon Road for several years. After Mary died in 2009 Sam learned to use a computer and reconnected with veterans from the 88th division, he traveled to Italy for a Memorial Service for veterans and made several other trips to Italy his last trip was in 2019. His research he was able to provide information to families of other veterans concerning where they served as well as where the veterans were buried. Sam was a jack of all trades and his creative ability enabled him to paint and carve.
Sam is survived by his daughter Susan Leonhard (Erik) of Forsyth, son David Studstill (Gregg), 6 grandchildren; Logan, Phillip, Molly, Wesley, Micah, Timothy; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and faithful companion Joann Huffman.
