William Robert Martin, 75, of Forsyth, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. A memorial service will be held at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 11:00AM. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Born October 28, 1948, to the late Palmer and Mary Martin in Macon, Georgia, William graduated from Willingham High School. He attended Southern Tech and Macon Junior College, and proudy served in the U.S. Navy. William was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Macon, and later became a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Forsyth. William enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest passion was carpentry and custom cabinetry. He retired from his work at the Robins Air Force Base to open his own cabinet shop. The shop grew to success and a great reputation, thanks to William’s perfectionism and attention to detail in his work. An avid reader and tinkerer, he could take apart anything, fix it, and put it back together again. He was good-hearted and loved animals. William was very outgoing by nature and made friends wherever he went. He was always ready to step up and help someone in need. William loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and it was important for him to know they were taken care of. He will be remembered by many as a friend you could count on.
In addition to his parents William is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Billy Borders. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Nancy Martin; daughter, Monica Martin (Todd Ward) of Forsyth; son, Brian Martin (Kyonda) of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brian K. Martin and Kaylee Martin of Norman, Oklahoma, Korbin Martin of Cordell, Oklahoma, and Jenna Ward of Forsyth; great-grandchild, Kayson Martin of Norman, Oklahoma; siblings, John “Aaron” Martin (Debbie) of Macon, Glenn Martin (Vicki) of Columbus, Georgia, Jeanette Borders of Macon, and Wayne Martin of Macon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
