William Raymond “Ray” Maddox, Jr., 80, of Roberta, Georgia, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens, Highway 41 North, Forsyth, Georgia, with the Reverend Jerry Pitman officiating. 

Ray was born December 17, 1943, to the late William Raymond Maddox, Sr. and Lucille Maddox in Forsyth, Georgia. Known as “Cowboy” to many of his friends, he was a 1962 graduate of Mary Persons High School where he played football and ran track. Shortly after graduation, Ray married Carol Andrews, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. Ray was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. During his service, Ray and Carol lived briefly in Staten Island, New York. Following his service in the Navy, the two returned to Forsyth and Ray began a 38-year career at Georgia Power. Ray was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In 1991, the year the Yellow Jackets won the National Championship, Ray and Carol attended every one of their games. Ray was a special man whose memory will be treasured by his family and friends. 

Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Maddox of Forsyth, Georgia; honorary daughter, Linda Anderson (Rodney) of Forsyth; honorary granddaughter, Desty Anderson; honorary grandson, Austin Anderson (Maria) of Chamblee, Georgia; sisters, Elizabeth Williamson and Barbara Maddox Norris (Ronald), both of Forsyth; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his three-year-old daughter, Deborah Gail Maddox, and sister, Gail Eugenia Maddox.
