Wendell Ray Ramage

Wendell Ray Ramage passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Christ United Methodist Church with burial in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.  Rev. Susan Hatcher  will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Mr. Ramage, the son of the late James Henry Ramage and Clara Herndon Ramage was born September 9, 1942, in Eastman, Georgia. His brother, Ernest Ramage and his sisters, Thelma Miller and Montine Martin preceded him in death. Mr. Ramage was an English Major at Georgia Southern University when he met his wife Linda Scott from Evans, GA. The two celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2015.  After graduating from Georgia Southern, Wendell went on to teach at Dodge County High school, and then moved to Forsyth, GA in 1972, where he began teaching high school English at Monroe Academy. He later worked as editor of the Monroe County Reporter, winning a number of state journalism awards. He returned to teach at Monroe Academy in 1990, and later taught at Central High School in Macon, GA.  Teaching was Mr. Ramage's passion until the day he passed away; he often had students to show up at his door to visit. He and his students won many One Act Play state championships with him as director, and he was awarded the STAR teacher award 13 times. He also enjoyed playing the piano for Christ United Methodist Church in Forsyth, GA where he was a member for over 35 years. He could frequently be found on his front porch with a cup of coffee, or in his garden which became his hobby after retiring. Survivors include his wife, Linda Ramage of Forsyth; children, Scott Ramage of Forsyth and Wendell Rick (Christine) Ramage of Orange Park, Florida; sister, Joyce Shackleford of Okeechobee, Florida; three grandchildren, Derrick Ramage, Taylor Ramage and Anna Leigh Ramage.In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, GA 31201.Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
