Shirley Mathews Treadwell

August 9, 1928 — November 10, 2021

Shirley Mathews Treadwell passed away suddenly on November 10, 2021. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Marilyn Tucker-Marek will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at the gravesite. Masks and social distancing are encouraged.

Mrs. Treadwell was born in Fort Valley, Georgia and attended Fort Valley High School where she met her future husband. She worked as a Southern Bell Operator in Fort Valley before she moved with her husband to Macon where she worked as a bookkeeper for Barney A. Smith Lincoln Mercury. After moving to Forsyth Mrs. Treadwell worked in a similar capacity with her husband in Treadwell family many business ventures. She was a long time devoted member of Forsyth First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Forsyth Women’s Club and contributed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Monroe County Care Cottage and many other children’s organizations.

Mrs. Treadwell is survived by her son, Thomas Hilton Treadwell II, daughter, Cheryl Leigh Treadwell, grandsons, Tyndal Thomas Treadwell and Tolan Fisher Treadwell and great granddaughter, Madison Rose Treadwell. Mrs. Treadwell’s husband, Jack Leland Treadwell and grandson, Thomas Hilton Treadwell III preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Monroe County Care Cottage, c/o Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, PO Box 276, Forsyth, GA 31029.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
