Ruth Evelyn Davis was born in Verna, Florida to Lena Hill and Arthur Lee Davis, Sr. on June 8, 1925. She moved with her family to Ludowici, Georgia as a young child and graduated from Long County High School along with her best friend and brother, Junior. She worked at Camp Stewart in Hinesville, Georgia during World War II and greatly enjoyed getting to know young people from all around the country. She completed one year of college at the University of Georgia in Athens, then returned to South Georgia. Ruth married Lloyd Ernest Strickland on September 5, 1959 in Ridgeland, South Carolina. They made their home in Ludowici until his death in 2007. At that time, she moved to Forsyth, Georgia to be near her son and grandchildren. She passed away on August 14, 2018 at the age of 93. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son, Lloyd Ernest Strickland, Jr. (Mary Ellen), grandchildren Lloyd Ernest “Ernie” Strickland III and Magdalene “Meg” Strickland as well as two sisters June Griffin (Doug) of Chatsworth GA and Sue Gore (Ronnie) of Wellborn FL. Ruth was a member of Ludowici United Methodist Church and later Dayspring Presbyterian Church. She loved her church and her family and was a great example of godliness in her life and commitment to Scripture. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 17, 2018, at Dayspring Presbyterian Church. Pastor David Martin will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dayspring Presbyterian Church, 1045 Hwy 41 South, Forsyth GA 31029. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
