Roy Cecil Edge passed away on August 15, 2017, at his home in Forsyth, Georgia. Cecil Edge was born in Monroe County on May 10, 1939 to the late Roy Goolsby and Mary Eugenia Edge. He graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1957. He joined the United States Air Force right after graduating high school and proudly served his country for three years. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Abernathy, in November of 1961. He worked for Atlanta Gas Light Company after returning home from service, and then for Georgia Power Company for the remainder of his career. He retired at the early age of 55 and kept busy with children, grandchildren, volunteering at the church, and yardwork. He was a member of the Forsyth/Monroe County Exchange Club, where he proudly served his community. He had a special love for his church, Fairview United Methodist Church, where he felt needed and loved by the small congregation. Prior to his membership at Fairview United Methodist Church, he had been a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He grew up in rural Monroe County, one of five children and a large extended family. He was raised with a strong work ethic and a pride in his country and family. His greatest love was for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. His mother and father, Roy Goolsby Edge and Mary Eugenia Edge preceded him in death. Also, his brothers, Chuck and Charles Edge, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ann (Abernathy), of 55 years, brothers, Harry (Carol) and Sammy (Gail) Edge, sister, Patricia (Bill) Boswell, children David (Michelle) Edge and Sheila (Jeff) Stark, grandchildren, Kendall (Gia) Popham, Juliann Stark, Madison Stark, Mackenzie Edge, Baylee Edge, Jackson Edge, and great-grandchild, Wyatt Popham. Also, he is survived by nieces and nephews, Dan (Dana) Brue, Jeffrey Edge, Lisa (Peter) Horanyi, Russ (Mandy) Edge, Brent (Amanda) Freeman, Laura (Tim) Tipton, Amy (Michael) Henderson, Debbie (Walter Dean) Duke, Connie (Fred) McKoy, adopted family members including John and Nancy Fleckenstein and their children and grandchildren, and best friend Johnny Thompson. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. Reverend Stan Harrell and Reverend Phillip Johnson will be officiating. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
