Robert passed away peacefully at his home, after a brief illness, surrounded by friends and family.

He was a centenarian that reached the 100-year mark in May of last year.

Robert was born in Providence, Rhode Island to William James Wood and Martinella Elizabeth James. He remained an only child while growing up in Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut.

He graduated from Cranston High School and then decided to join the US Navy and Air Force in 1942. He became a WWII Veteran 4 years later.

Robert was accepted to John Marshall Law School which relocated him to Atlanta, Georgia. There he met the "Love of his Life", Marion Singley at the Arthur Murray School of Dance. They married on March 7, 1947, and remained so for the next 72 years.

Robert relocated his family to Macon, Georgia in 1961 where he immediately joined The Macon Health Club. This became a hobby of his for the next 50 years.

Robert retired from BellSouth as a Yellow Page Advertising Salesman after 35 years and decided to join his daughter, Lisa, in Hilton Head Island SC in 2012, to live "the island life" where he made daily visits to the community golf course.

Robert built a new home in Forsyth, Georgia in 2022. He became Forsyth's Father of the Year in 2024.

Robert was an avid UGA Bulldog fan and often bragged about his two sons graduating from the University.

Robert was a practical joker, with a quick wit, and loved by everyone that he met with his unique sense of humor. He never forgot a face and he had a keen ability to retain any and all information from anyone that he made a point of inquiring to learn more about their personal lives. He kept everyone entertained with his countless recollections of his lifetime journey.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Marion Singley Wood in January 2020 and his first-born son, Robert Geoffery Wood Gottschalk in December 2010.

Robert is survived by the daughter, Lisa Wood Elliott of Forsyth, son, Tyler Marion Wood (Catherine) of Smarr, Granddaughter, Shelley Elisabeth Moore of Forsyth, and 2 Grandsons, Drew Wood and Alex Wood of Atlanta; and two great grandchildren

Arrangements have been made through Monroe Co. Memorial Chapel with private grave site services being held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
