Randall (Randy) Lawrence Smith

Randy L. Smith of Cumming, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020.  Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 30 at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no formal visitation will be held.           

Randy, the son of the late Chafin Smith and Virginia Norman Smith, of Forsyth, Georgia, was born in DeKalb County, Georgia.  He lived his early life in Forsyth graduating valedictorian and Star Student from Mary Persons High School.  His undergraduate education was at Florida State University where he was valedictorian.  He received his master’s degree and did doctoral work in English at Indiana State University.           

His career was in hotel management for the parent company of Holiday Inn.  He could speak seven languages fluently and lived in several foreign countries as he was a trouble shooter to improve hotel properties.  He was also an accomplished pianist.           

He was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church in Forsyth and attended Cumming First United Methodist Church.

Randy is survived by his brother, Jimmy (Sheila) Smith of Forsyth; two nephews, Allen (Jill) Smith of Barnesville and Mark (Heather) Smith of Forsyth; four great nieces and four first cousins and their families.           

The family requests no flowers but suggests donations to donor’s favorite charity.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
