Michael William Savelle, Sr., age 69, passed from this life, Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, Georgia.
Mike was the operations manager of Environmental Equipment Leasing for twenty years. Mike was a man of integrity and character; he was a well-respected manager who loved his job and employees. Many of his employees have stories of what a kind and great boss he was and how he made a difference in their lives. Mike was a hard worker; he always put others first putting their needs in front of his own. Mike knew how to make those around him laugh with his well-timed sense of humor.
Mike was a true outdoorsman. He was happiest in the woods or on a boat. If you knew him, you know he loved to turkey hunt. Mike loved the water and deep sea fishing. He loved any form of travel; his adventurous spirit took his family all across this country.
Mike served his country in the National Guard for 6 years. Mike opened and designed Savelle and Sons Jewelers in the Albany Mall in 1976. In 1981 Mike was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America. In 1988, Mike served as President of the Albany Mall Merchants Association and served as President of the Albany Evening Lions Club, serving as Chairman Mike started the first in the United States the “Campaign for Sight First”, for the blind here as well as overseas. He also was first for letting women serve in the Albany Evening Lions Club.
While living in Albany, Mike and his family were members of Albany Bible Church.
In 2020 Mike moved his family to Macon, Georgia where he and Joy were members of Mable White Baptist Church, where Mike served as president of their Sunday School class and as a church greeter.
Mike was born on September 18, 1952 in Albany, Georgia to the late Mortin Judson Savelle and Virginia Nell Downing.
Mike is survived by his wife, Joy Braswell Savelle, they married on March 14, 1979, and they were blessed with nearly 43 years of marriage. They have two children, Michael William Savelle, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Forsyth, Georgia, Stephanie Savelle Marshall and her husband Dr. Michael Reid of Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Mike is survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Fisher Savelle, Joyanna Grace Savelle, Michael William Savelle, III, Judson Edward Savelle of Forsyth, Georgia. William Marshall and Mary Elizabeth Marshall of Vestavia Hills, Alabama.
Mike was laid to rest on his family farm. Mike left a legacy of love, family, hard work and faithfulness.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
