Larry Ardell DeFore

Larry Ardell DeFore passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022. The memorial service will be Tuesday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church. Reverend Mark Magoni will officiate. The private graveside service will be on Monday, September 5.

Larry was born in Macon, Georgia, June 10, 1941. The son of the late Ardell and Stella (McElheney) Defore. Larry graduated from Lanier High School. He served in the Air National Guard, retired from 3M Company, and retired with the state of Georgia. He was a longtime, active member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class, and a founding member of the ROMEOs.

Larry was pre-deceased by his sister Carol Baldwin. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 58 years, Peggy Martin DeFore, and their daughter Lorry Turner and son-in-law Jeff Turner of Roopville, Georgia, and his four grandchildren: MaryLeith Turner of Maryville, Tennessee, Parks Turner (Abigail) of Rome, Georgia, Zebulun Turner, and Arden Turner.

Larry participated as a member of the Woodworkers’ Association of Middle Georgia. He enjoyed spending time in his shop (making furniture, pens, and bowls), fishing, rabbit hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.

The family asks for donations to be made to Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers, 500 Bass Road, Macon, GA 31210.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
