Katharine Ella Weaver Simms, 97, was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 5, 1925 and passed away at her home in Culloden, Georgia, November 11, 2022. She is predeceased by the love of her life, Virgil Ray Simms, Jr., her father Julius Gideon Weaver, her mother, Estelle Kelly Weaver, her brother, Julius Whatley (Buck) Weaver and three grandchildren: Allen Merrill Simms, Sarah Katharine Tipps, and David Richard McCoy; two great-grandchildren Dillon Ray McCoy; Noah Jackson McCoy; and Connie Graham Millar, mother of four of her grandchildren.
She is survived by son Virgil Ray Simms, III (Libby) of Jefferson, Georgia; Kathy Simms McCoy (Pat) of Culloden, Georgia; Deborah Simms Tipps (Jim) of Beaver Creek, Ohio; and Dale Allen Simms (Elaine) of Culloden, Georgia; also 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
After graduating from high school in Jacksonville, Florida, she worked for Globe Life Insurance Company. She married Ray on July 29, 1944. After WWII they moved to Plant City, Florida. Together they raised four children. She was active in school events and drove a rural postal route for several years. She was actively involved in Ray’s cattle ranch at Lithia, Florida. She was President of the Florida Cowbells Association, an auxiliary of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, serving from 1978-1980.
She was active in Primitive Baptist Churches all of her life. She played the piano, was a Bible Study Teacher, and served in the Ladies Auxiliary. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and was a member of Riverside Primitive Baptist Church. After marrying Ray, they moved to Plant City, Florida where they both served in the Plant City Primitive Baptist Church. Since 1986 she was a member of Ramah Primitive Baptist Church in Barnesville, GA.
Services will be at Ramah Primitive Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers send contributions to Ramah Primitive Baptist Church or Discipling Ministries International, Post Office Box 69, Culloden, GA 31016.
Her many journals reveal her daily walk with her Lord, Jesus Christ, showing that she went to the Lord with every loss and every joy.
