John Larkin Smith, Jr.

John Larkin Smith Jr., 72, of Forsyth passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Mr. Smith was born August 13, 1945 in Durham, North Carolina but has lived in Monroe County, GA since 1976.  He was the son of the late John Larkin Smith Sr. and Hazel Reid Smith.  He was predeceased by his brother W.C. Bebber.    Mr. Smith was retired from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department after fourteen years of dedicated service. He was a devoted husband, brother, loving father, and grandfather.  He was a proud member of Grand Lodge of Georgia, Atlanta-Peachtree 59.  He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 926.  He was the President of the Silver Dollar Motorcycle Club of Forsyth.   He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Victoria Ann Smith, sister Gracie Howington of Cary, NC; three children: Cathy Edwards (Garry) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Sandy Harris (Donnie) of Youngsville, NC, Donna Norris (David) of Opp, Alabama; grandchildren Brittany Harris, Joslyn Ruiz (Daniel), Dawson Goen, Hunter Norris; great grandchild Mattie Davis.    Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel in Forsyth, GA. Rev. Mark Goolsby will officiate.  Apex Funeral Home will handle graveside services on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., at Good Hope Baptist Church located at 6630 Good Hope Church Road, Cary, NC.   In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to Good Hope Baptist Church, 6630 Good Hope Church Road, Cary, NC 27519.    Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of local arrangements.  Apex Funeral Home has charge of out of town arrangements.
