James Gray “Jimmy” Atkinson passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Juliette Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Clay Burdette will officiate.
Jimmy was born February 19, 1961 in Albany, Georgia to the late John Fuller Atkinson, Jr. and Emmie Mae Culpepper Atkinson. His brother, Johnny Atkinson preceded him in death. Jimmy graduated from Mary Persons High School and retired as the owner/operator of Atkinson’s Mid GA Auto Repair & Collision.
In 1991, Jimmy and Johnny fulfilled their lifelong dream together by opening Mid GA here in Forsyth. Jimmy had a special talent of being able to fix anything and Johnny was a talented painter. Jimmy kept the dream alive even after losing his best friend and brother unexpectedly in 1993. The bond of these brothers created a name and successful family business for many years. Jimmy always had a giving heart from the shirt off his back to helping a friend in need. His precious memory will be held tight by his family, friends, and many people of our community.
Jimmy is survived by his significant other Kathy Butler Sellers of Forsyth, his children, John Taylor (Crystal) Atkinson of Warner Robins, Ashley Atkinson Powell of Forsyth and Emily Atkinson of Tifton; two grandchildren, Emmie Powell and Jaxson Powell.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to donor’s favorite charity.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
