VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE A celebration of the life of Mrs. Janie Corley Mays will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Bolingbroke. Afterwards Mrs. Mays will be laid to rest at Monroe Memorial Gardens on Ensign Road in Forsyth next to her husband Mr. Billy Ray Mays, Sr. who preceded her in death on December 29, 2010. Mrs. Mays will be at her home church, Bethany Baptist Church on Pea Ridge Road in Bolingbroke beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 for visitation with family and friends. Rev. Jimmy Corbitt will be officiating with music and song by Jeff Rader and Logan Smith with Wanda Barrett as pianist. Pallbearers include: Tommy Campbell, Jim Taylor, Jeff Rader, David Prim, David Rogers and Harvey Appling. Mrs. Mays was born on September 4, 1938 in Juliette, Ga. She began her journey with her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 25, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Agnes Wilson Corley; her sisters, Louise Dykes, Alma Crawford, Doris Tidwell; and brothers, Eugene Corley, Robert L. Corley, Marvin Corley and Charles Corley. Mrs. Mays was employed by the Monroe County Board of Education for over 37 years where she worked in the Mary Persons High School cafeteria and then Hubbard Elementary School where she eventually became the lunchroom manager. She was also the manager of the City of Forsyth swimming pool for many years as her six children were growing up. Mrs. Mays was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Bolingbroke where she enjoyed and loved her church, church family and especially her Sunday school class, the Young At Heart. She participated in the Bread and Blessing food and clothing bank ministry and helped promote gospel events at the church. She loved cooking, gardening, shopping and entertaining her friends and family. Mrs. Mays is survived by her six children: Wanda Mays Fountain (Jay) of Forsyth; Kenneth Mays (Candace) of Citrus Hills, FL; Donna Mays Giddens of Gray; Terry Mays (Rhonda) of Cartersville; Janet Mays Glover (Billy) of Forsyth; and Billy Mays, Jr. (Carla) of Culloden. Mrs. Mays was blessed with 14 grandchildren and they include John Belknap of Forsyth; Trellis Belknap Grant (Keith) of Forsyth; Kaz Mays (Jaime) of Crystal River, FL; Michael Giddens (Heather) of Gray; Daniel Giddens of Charlotte, NC; Whitney Mays-Dietze (Josh) of Cartersville; Kayla Mays of Cartersville; David Lee Irby (Brittney) of Forsyth; Matthew Glover of Forsyth; Christina Kennedy (Scotty) of Mt. Pleasant, TN; Lindsey Steele (Jeremy) of St. Joseph, TN; Christine Mays, Virginia Beach, VA; Megan Mays Staples (Travis) of Forsyth and Devin Mays (Myranda) of Clarksville, TN. Mrs. Mays was especially blessed and proud of her 13 great-grandchildren. They include: Jordan Grant and Jake Grant of Forsyth; Audrey Mays and Kenleigh Mays of Crystal River, FL; Lily Nolan and Blaiklee Giddens of Gray; Ava Mays and Brantley Dietz of Cartersville; Mason Kennedy and Shelby Lynn Kennedy of Mt. Pleasant, TN; Karsen Mae Mullis of Forsyth; Harper Ann Mays and Paisley Ruth Mays of Clarksville, TN. Mrs. Mays is also survived by her sisters Ruth Corley Waits of Sevierville, TN and Shirley Corley Daniel (Danny) of Juliette along with her brother Mitchell Corley (Erin) of Augusta along many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Mays has asked that donations be made to Bethany Baptist Church For His Glory Building Fund, P.O. Box 539, Bolingbroke, GA 31004 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
