James Barry Padgett, Sr.

April 1, 1955 — February 2, 2021

James Barry “Jim” Padgett, Sr. passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church Pavilion with burial in the church cemetery.  Rev. Nelson Grist will officiate. Due to COVID-19 there will not be a formal visitation.  Masks and social distancing are required at the cemetery.

Jim the son of the late James C. Padgett and Virginia Fay Smith Chartier was born April 1, 1955 in Rome, Georgia.  His son, James Barry Padgett, Jr. preceded him in death. Jim retired as CW4 in the 148th BSB and the Property Book Officer for the 48th IBCT of the Georgia Army National Guard. He was an active member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church, a member of Barnesville Lions Club, worked with Monroe County Kingdom Builders and the Community Care Food Pantry in Forsyth.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jackie Baker Padgett of Barnesville; daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Philip Van Pelt of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Matthew Padgett (Bekha), Olivia Lamb, Willow Padgett, Colby Van Pelt, Maverick Van Pelt and Piper Van Pelt; and great grandson, Elijah James Padgett.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Post Office Box 6036, Forsyth, GA 31029.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
