Herbert Clay “HC” Johnson, Jr., passed away at his home on November 29 surrounded by his family. He was born in Monroe County, the youngest of four children of Herbert Clay Johnson, Sr., and Ollie Gilbert Johnson. HC was a graduate of Mary Persons High School, class of 1963.
HC attained his Master Electrician, Master Mechanic, and Master Plumber licenses from the State of Georgia, and with his son Herbert “Herbie” Johnson, III, started their business Johnson Installation and Repair Service in 1986. Because of HC’s expertise and wealth of knowledge, many relied on him as a consultant.
HC was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. For many years, HC went on fishing adventures with friends and family. His other adventures included several trips to Europe.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Augustine Hammersley and a nephew Cleve Haygood. He is survived by his son Herbie Johnson, and his daughter Denise Johnson Frazier, and a grandson Raymond Scott Frazier, III. Survivors also include his sisters Frances “Frankie” Johnson Evans and Betty Ann Johnson Haygood, and several nieces and nephews. Another survivor is his close friend Tony “TBird” Mathis.
HC will be truly missed by his family and close friends. A private ceremony and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of HC may be made to Save A Pet, PO Box 933, Forsyth, GA 31029, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
