Harold Compton

Mr. Harold Compton, 88, of Lizella, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023.  Graveside funeral services will be at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens, Monday, November 13, 2023, at 11:00AM, with the Reverend Jimmy Proulx officiating.  The family will greet friends at Monroe County Memorial Chapel one hour prior to the service. 
Mr. Compton was born in Garfield, Kentucky, and met his future wife, Lillie Mae Peak, at Haywood Dairy, where she would feed him during her breaks.  Later, he went to work for Brown and Williamson Tobacco, as well as supporting his family as a part-time police officer in Louisville, Kentucky.  When the Brown and Williamson plant in Kentucky closed, he moved his family to Macon, Georgia to work at the plant there.  Mr. Compton retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco after thirty-six years of service.  Mr. Compton will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting his whole life.  Above all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. 
Mr. Compton is preceded in death by his parents, Peyton and Jettie Compton; his wife, Lillie Mae Compton; grandson, Charlie Compton; and siblings, Rae Wanda Compton, Ressie Lemoine, Catherine Harper, Shirley Mattingly, James Compton, Johnny Compton, Hollis Compton, and Carol Compton.  He is survived by his son, Darrell Wayne Compton, (Carol), of Lizella, Georgia; grandsons, Daniel Wayne Compton (Kori), of Byron, Georgia, and Dustin Wayne Compton (Sandra), of Lizella; great-grandsons, Dalton Wayne Compton, Dakota Wayne Compton, and Devin Wayne Compton; sister, Betty Dozier (Jim), of Biloxi, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
