George W. Pirkle, 81, of Forsyth, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017. George was born in Culloden, Georgia as the only child of Virginia Elizabeth Brown Pirkle Noll and Fred Edward Pirkle. George, known as Billy to family, was the grandson of Mattie Sue (Pierson) and George Zachary Brown of Culloden. George attended Culloden School in Culloden, Banks Stephens in Forsyth, Edison High School in Miami, and was graduated from Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Class of 1953. George served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. After his military service, he returned to Monroe County. He attended Mercer University in Macon, and married Jacquelyn Ann Childs of Forsyth. After moving to Atlanta, George was graduated from Georgia State University and worked for most of his career at Genuine Parts Company. George later retired as Chief Financial Officer of General Hardware Company. In 2007, George married Norma Jean Shaw Lancaster of Forsyth. George was a member and Deacon of Sharon Church in Culloden. He also volunteered many hours to Maynard Baptist, which was Norma Jean’s church. George is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean Pirkle; his two children Christine Pirkle of Hollywood, Florida and Patti Pirkle (Mike) Bardet of Marietta Georgia; two granddaughters Ashley Bardet (David) Turner of Coos Bay, Oregon and Shelby Bardet of Columbia, South Carolina; and one great-granddaughter Alice Turner of Coos Bay, Oregon. George will also be missed by the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Norma Jean, and so many loved ones in the Childs and Pierson families. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Monroe County Memorial Chapel in Forsyth. The funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Sharon Church on Highway 83 South near Strouds Crossroads. The graveside service will follow at the Pierson Family Graveyard. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Sharon Church, 5843 Highway 83 South, Culloden, GA 31016. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
