Jeanette Maddox left this earthly world to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours in her sleep. I know she was greeted by the love of her life through 72 years of marriage. Dancing together again like only they could do. Stars on the dance floor and in each other's arms. Jeanette 16 married Harold 19 in 1946.
Born in East Juliette to Gladys Pinyon Bishop and Jim Bishop Sept. 11, 1930. No one was prouder to be from East Juliette than "Net" as Hal called her, where some of the best basketball players were turned out. Jeanette and her sister Cornelia [Katie] were two of the best to play for Mary Persons High School. All Region and All State Jeanette was the first married player to ever play for MPHS and in turn, the school rules were changed so Jeannette could play in the state playoffs.
Hard work and raising two "Daddy's Girls" was not easy. She worked much of her early years (13) in MPHS library. She loved the students and when Librarian Rosemary Evans left for Gordon College she took Jeanette with her as her assistant. She retired from Gordon College after 20 years of service. The love of books became a ravenous part of her life. While in assisted living at first, she read books and novels faster than her family could furnish them. The old man time and Alzheimer's the cruelest disease in history took her from us long before she went to heaven.
Proceeded in death by her parents Gladys and Jim Bishop, brother and sister-in-law Cecil and Ilah Bishop and the love of her life, her husband Harold Maddox of 72 years.
Survived by daughters Connie M Page of Greenville SC and Susan [Kim] M Brock of Forsyth. Grandchildren Michael [Sandra] Peavey, Amy [Michael} P Musick, and USSN Mathew Watson. Three great grandchildren Riley, Sydney, and Brandon.
