Essie Herndon, age 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 24, 2023. She was born on September 22, 1937, to the late Frank and Leary McWhirter in Fayetteville, Tennessee. She was also preceded in death by her six brothers, one sister and several half brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children, Tricia (Rickey) Harris of Thomaston, Tommy (Billie) Herndon of Forsyth and Dale (Marquita) Herndon of Rome, her grandchildren, Lori (Paul) Harrison, Melissa (Jason) Pruiett, Jeffrey (Melissa) Herndon, Blair (Greg) Eacret, and Ashton Herndon, and her great grandchildren, Koryn Harrison, Jax Harrison, Catherine Pruiett, Chase Pruiett, Cullen Herndon, Carlee Herndon, Alex Eacret and Scarlett Eacret and her sister, Dixie Gordon of Warner Robins.
Essie was a devout Christian and was dedicated to her church, Garden Hills Baptist Church. She rarely missed a Sunday and could be found in the choir making a joyful noise to the Lord. She instilled the importance of church and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ in her children. She also had an incredibly strong work ethic which was evidenced by the over 52 years that she was employed for the William Carter company. Essie also enjoyed being a hairstylist and serving her clients for many years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Antebellum Grove Senior Living in Warner Robins, Georgia. A very special thank you to Megan and her team of staff at Brightmoor Hospice for the love and care they extended in Essie’s final months.
