Ernest Columbus “E.C.” Driskell Jr., 97, was born January 4th, 1926, in Forsyth Ga. He was the oldest of 5 children to Eunice and Ernest Sr. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Tony Ledford officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.
At the age of 17 he was drafted in the United States Marine Corps and served in battle in WWII along the South Pacific including Iwo Jima and Volcano Islands as a rifle expert. When the war was over, He returned home but decided to re-enlist for another 3 years in which he served in China. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. He returned home once more and met Ruth Forrest who would later become his wife. They were married and shortly after moved to the Atlanta area where they started a family of their own and he became a foreman for Saratoga Conveyor. Then later for Weyerhaeuser company as a manager. After 25 years he partially retired and became the surgery patient transporter for Clayton Eye Center until the early 2000’s. Ernest spent the final 20 years of his life living in Gainesville GA and was member of East Hall Baptist Church.
During his life he has been a blessing to many lives including family, friends, church members, nursing home residents, and strangers. He was a giver, always lending a helping hand even when it wasn’t asked for. He served God through his faith and ministering to bring others closer to God. He always carried a smile until his final days here on earth.
Ernest is survived by his brother Smitty Driskell of Forsyth, Ga; his 4 children Robin Nix of Buford Ga, Roger Driskell of Douglasville Ga, Deborah Gunn of Macon Ga and Carol Cox of Marietta Ga, 11 grandchildren Teela, Nathan, Jeremy, Cody, Shelly, Savannah, Steven, Jason, Tracy, Tiffany, and Melody; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his brother Jack, his sisters Frances and Betty, and his great great angel grandchild Addyson.
