Emiliano Ricelo Vento passed away at his home on King Rd. Sunday, January 26, 2020. A funeral mass will be held at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, January, 29, 2020, at Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church, Macon Georgia. Entombment will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Father William McIntyre will officiate. A rosary will be prayed Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 5:30 PM until 6:00 PM with the visitation following until 9:00 PM at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Vento, the son of the late Emiliano Vento and Celina Gomez Vento was born March 31, 1934, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. He grew up cultivating the world’s finest tobacco. After the 1959 Cuban Revolution, he was active in an effort to bring democracy back to Cuba and served two years as a political prisoner. In 1968 he enlisted in a work camp program in order to gain his family’s freedom out of the communist regime. In May of 1971 he was able to emigrate with his family to Miami, Florida. There he owned and operated Alpes Moving for over 30 years. He has been a resident of Monroe County since 2006.
Mr. Vento is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mirta Vento of Forsyth; Daughter, Barbara Woodward (Dale) of Forsyth; Son, Alex Vento (Carla) of Monroe County; Sisters Ereida Padron of Miami and Zobeida Ramirez of Cuba; Brother, Pelagio Vento of Miami; two grandchildren Emily McCallister of Atlanta and Amelia Vento of Monroe County.
The family may be contacted at the residence of Dale and Barbara Woodward at 640 King Road, Forsyth, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon Georgia 31210.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
