Curtis E. Waites, of Duluth, GA, passed away on Tuesday, December 13th 2022, at age 98 of natural causes. Born in Forsyth, GA on May 27, 1924, he attended Mary Persons High School. After graduation, Curtis served in the US Army in World War II in the European theater. He graduated from University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and began his banking career at The Peoples Bank in Forsyth. He then moved to Atlanta, GA to work for National Bank of Georgia. He furthered his career and moved to Lithonia, GA and was President of Peoples Bank for 16 years. While in Lithonia, he served as a representative of the state of Georgia to the American Banker's Association. Curtis then moved to LaGrange, GA and served as Senior Vice President of Trust Company of LaGrange. He retired on June 30, 1992. After retirement, he moved to Suwanee, GA where he volunteered for 15 years at Gwinnett Medical Center and 6 years at Fernbank Museum. His favorite hobby was traveling and he visited every continent except Antarctica. Curtis is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louise Baston Waites. His children: Gene Waites (Kathy), Carol Sly (Tom) and Sam Waites (Tracy). Grandchildren: Meghan Meyer (Andrew), Katie Lee (Michael), Nicole Waites, Sam Sly, and great grandson, Henry Lee. A graveside service will be held at Forsyth City Cemetery, Newton Memorial Drive, Forsyth, Georgia, Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. Dr. John Talley will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Billy Graham Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201,Wounded Warriors, Post Office Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Duluth, 3700 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth, GA 30096. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
