Cheryl Cox Rawls, 76, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024. Graveside funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens with Dr. Wil Platt officiating.
Cheryl was born January 24, 1948, in Decatur, Georgia to the late Lawrence Starr Cox and Betty Jane Mitchell Cox. She is a 1966 honor graduate of Mary Persons High School in Forsyth where she was homecoming queen and head majorette. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and her master’s degree from Georgia College and State University, which led her to her long teaching career in Biology at Stratford Academy. She later owned Invisible Fence Company in Macon, where she made many friends. Her love and compassion for animals were evident in her tireless work with several pet rescue groups.
Cheryl is survived by her husband of 55 years, John G. Rawls, Jr. of Macon, Georgia; sons Britton Rawls (Ansley) of Macon, Georgia and John Rawls III (Michelle) of Fernandina Beach, Florida; grandchildren Carter Rawls and Mallory Rawls, both of Macon, Georgia and Calvin Rawls of Fernandina Beach, Florida; mother Betty Cox Hill of Macon, Georgia; sisters Lauren Robeson (John) of Columbia, South Carolina and Dixie Cox (Jon Lunn) of Greensboro, Georgia; brother Clayton Cox (Winter) of Gainesville, Georgia; and sister-in-law Roslyn Rawls Platt (Wil) of Macon, Georgia. In addition to her father, Cheryl is preceded in death by her stepfather, Colonel William B. Hill and her niece, Briana Rene Burgess.
