Cecil Ham

Cecil Ham passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at his residence in Eatonton, GA. He was born December 12, 1932 in Monroe County GA to Ernest Ham and Mildred Edge Ham. Cecil was a running back for the Mary Persons Bulldogs, served in the Georgia National Guard joining in 1950, devoting 2 weeks every summer at Fort Stewart and also spending one weekend every month at National Guard Armory in Forsyth, retiring SFC after 30 years of service in 1980. He spent 1 1/2 years at the Georgia Forestry. He then worked civil service at Robins Air Force base as an Aircraft mechanic for 35 years, retiring January 1st 1988 because Sue said he could.

He was also a charter member of Windsor Academy serving on the board of directors for several years. Cecil was devoted to his square dance partner for life, his children, and community. He was a wonderful neighbor, gardener, outdoorsman, and beloved papa.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Sue Ham, and his grandson Joseph Ham.

Survived by his daughter, Vicki Mixon Lord and his son Wayne Ham (Meg). Grandchildren, Lynn Mixon Stanley (Curtis), Heather Newberry (Clint) and Jamie Ham (Paige). Great grandchildren, Gage and Hollee Stanley, Hunter and Grayson Newberry, Riley, Jordan, Jolie and Chase Ham and Waylon Chandler.  Brothers, Ernest Ham (June), Robert Ham (Sara) and Willis Ham. Several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Regency Southerncare Hospice, 825 Baxter Street, Athens, Ga 30605.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.  The family will greet friends the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until 1l: 00 a.m. at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Rev. Benjamin Newberry will officiate.
