On October 9, 2022 the world lost a beautiful soul, Betty Ann Anthony Cardell. She was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Anthony on February 18, 1932 in Barnesville, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Melvin Cardell, her son Earnest Smith, her daughter Shirley Strickland and her granddaughter Brandy Butler Zellner. Mrs. Cardell worked in the mill industry for many years while raising her four children. She lived in Griffin, Georgia for many years but moved to Forsyth, Georgia after the passing of her husband. In 2018 she went to live at Pruitt Health of Forsyth, where she was later crowned “Valentine Queen” in February 2020.
The outdoors was one of her favorite places to be. She loved to fish, grill outside with her family and sit and watch nature all around her. She loved to crochet, play bingo, bake delicious homemade cakes and to cook for family, especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved the Lord, studied His word and she tried her very best to live the way that she should.
To know her was to love her and I can guarantee you one thing for sure, if you ever wanted an honest opinion about anything, you could go to Mrs. Betty and she would tell it like it is. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them any opportunity that she could. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend and touched many lives throughout hers.
Her family will miss her for sure. Her daughter Vicky (Steve) Butler, her son James (Deborah) Smith, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren will always have their memories with her and they will strive to continue to make her proud. The stories she would tell were the best, the food she cooked was phenomenal (every recipe in her head) and the hugs she gave made everything better.
The family will greet visitors on Thursday October 13, 2022 at 10:00am at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, her service will follow visitation at 11:00am in the Chapel and the burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The American Heart Association, 904 Cheery Street, Suite A, Macon, GA 31201.
