Barbara Hardeman Thurston

February 2, 1936 — September 22, 2020

Barbara H. Thurston passed away on September 22 in Macon after a brief illness.  She was born on February 2, 1936, to Marian and Forrest Hardeman, Sr. in Oglethorpe County, Georgia.

She was a 1954 graduate of Jones County High School, where she met her husband, Mony Thurston.  They were married on November 13, 1954, and moved to Forsyth in 1955.  She volunteered with the Monroe County Hospital Auxiliary for many years, and she taught Sunday School for over twenty years at First Baptist Church in Forsyth, where she was a member.  She was also a former member of the National Guard Auxiliary.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her siblings Dee Buggay, Virginia Clay, and Forrest Hardeman, Jr.  She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Thomas M. Thurston of Forsyth; daughter and son-in-law Pam and Phillip Bell of Barnesville; grandson Braxton Bell of Athens; brother and sister-in-law Tony and Luan Hardeman of Madison; sister-in-law Brenda Hardeman of Stockbridge, and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was private at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.

The family asks that donations be made to Monroe County Hospital Foundation,  P. O. Box 1068, Forsyth, GA  31029; or Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 5400 Riverside Drive, Suite 200, Macon, GA  31210.

Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
