Alton Whitman passed away Friday, April 21, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Maynard Baptist Church with burial in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jack Spillers will officiate. The family will greet friends the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Mr. Whitman, the son of the late Walter Whitman and Willie Evelyn Watts Traylor was born August 27, 1942, in Thomaston, Georgia. He was retired from the State of Georgia and was a member of Maynard Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Whitman of Juliette; children, Marty Stacy (Vanessa) Whitman of Maryville, Tennessee and Selina Whitman Wolfe of Forsyth; sisters, Evelyn Adams of Maryville, Tennessee, Marie Niemi of Washington State and Lorene Mitchell of Manchester; brother, Burl Traylor of Maryville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Michael Stacy Whitman, Marty Dustin Whitman, Stacie Ann Whitman, Windsor Rose Whitman, Cole Wolfe, Austin Wolfe and Cheyanne Wolfe. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Georgia Baptist Children’s Home Family Ministries, 9250 Hutcheson Ferry Road, Palmetto, GA 30268. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
