Allan Terry Washinger, born June 24, 1939 in Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully in his Watkinsville, GA home Friday, April 7, 2017 at the age of 77. Terry moved to Atlanta, Georgia as a child with his late mother (Janet Stroud) and late step-father (Bernard Stroud). After graduating from Sylvan High School in 1957, Terry joined the Marines. Following his military tour of duty, he married his wife of 56 years, Nona. Terry first worked for his family's furniture business and later opened Furniture Land in Forsyth, Georgia. Terry retired at an early age and “made his daily rounds” in Forsyth to Shane's, Bowdoin’s, and WC's. He loved Mary Persons football and spent many years carrying the down marker on the sideline. Later in life, Terry and Nona moved to St. Simon's Island for 10 years prior to moving closer to family in Watkinsville, GA. Terry was faithful and supportive of his family, loving each of them by caring for the details of their safety and best interest without fail. Terry's closest friends and family understood the depth of his love. He loved hearing or telling a good joke and a good story. Survivors include his wife, Wynona Bloodworth Washinger of Watkinsville, GA; son Toby Warren Washinger (and wife Taryn) of Vidalia, GA and daughter; Amy Washinger Arnold (and husband Merritt) of Athens, GA. Terry's pride was evident for his 5 grandchildren: Anna Currie Washinger, Avery Allan Washinger, Merritt Morgan Arnold Jr, Cameron Luke Arnold, and Sarah (Sadie) Gates Arnold . Terry loved days of mentoring his children, nephews, and grandchildren in hunting and fishing activities therefore in lieu of flowers to honor Terry's life, the family is requesting donations to The Outdoor Dream Foundation, PO Box 802, Anderson, SC 29622; an organization dedicated to granting outdoor adventures to children who have been diagnosed with terminal or life-threatening illnesses. Private graveside services were held Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Monroe Memorial Gardens, Forsyth, Georgia. Rev Gil McGinnis officiated. Monroe County Memorial Chapel had charge of arrangements.
