Albert Peery Hopkins, Jr., “Al,” died peacefully in his Forsyth, Georgia, home surrounded by his family on December 11, 2017, at the age of 72. Al was born on October 7, 1945 in Kingsport, Tennessee to Albert Peery and Annie Mary Hartley Hopkins. After the death of his father, the family relocated to Alamo, Georgia, where he spent his childhood. He graduated from Georgia Military College and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After completing his time in the USAF, he went on to graduate from Georgia Southern University. Al married his college sweetheart, Jenny Vause Hopkins, on August 25, 1973. The couple settled in McRae, Georgia, where they opened their first accounting business and started a family. In 1985, Al answered a calling to move into full-time ministry. The family moved to Louisiana, where Al earned his M.Div. and Ph.D. in theology from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Al lived his life to its fullest. As a Vietnam veteran and ordained minister, he was a man who gave his life for God and Country. In his professional career as an accountant, he used his practice to support and minister to every client who walked through his office doors. He never met a stranger and poured the love of Christ into everyone he encountered. Al is survived by his wife, Jenny; children, Rachel Anne Hopkins Garza (Forsyth), Albert P. Hopkins, III (Atlanta), and Patrick Lee Hopkins (Fayetteville, AR); grandchildren, Jesse Dylan Garza and Ryder James Garza; sister, Elizabeth Ann Hopkins Cochran (Lubbock, TX), and brother, Otis Eugene Hopkins (Alamo, GA); and numerous cousins across the United States.
