Ann Hardin Chambless, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 31, 2017 after an extended illness. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Roger and four children Ken (Carole) of Barnesville, Mark of Culloden, Clay (Karmen) of Dalton, and Colley Ann (Michael) Flynt of Atlanta. She is also survived by grandchildren Lauren (David) Jones, Ken (Britni) Chambless, Kaylen (Jackson) Stephens, Andy Chambless, Will Chambless, Hardin Chambless, Haddie Chambless, Anna Katherine Flynt, and Harrison Flynt, great grandchildren Emory Jones, Caleb Jones, Ethan Jones, Amelia Ann Chambless, brother Toombs (Joan) Hardin, and sister Camille Stutts. Ann was born and raised in Dyas, GA (southern Monroe County) the daughter of Homer Jefferson Hardin and Frances Colley Hardin and was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She graduated from Mary Persons High School in 1955 with honors. Afterward, she attended Mercer University and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart and they began their family. While raising their four children she returned to college and pursued her degree at Tift College and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1975 with a bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. While there, she was named to Who's Who in Colleges and Universities. During her life she held important jobs serving as the vital statistician for the Monroe County Health Department and later as the Executive Secretary of the Monroe County Draft Board during the Vietnam Era. Perhaps her most rewarding experience came as a 3rd grade teacher at Monroe Academy for seventeen years. Additionally, Ann lived an active lifestyle regularly entertaining friends and family. She participated in numerous bridge groups and was a member of the Forsyth Book Club. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Forsyth serving on various committees. She leaves to cherish many lifelong friends and memories of her beloved hometown. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at First Baptist Church Forsyth with burial in Forsyth City Cemetery. Dr. Dan Whitaker will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday April 1, 2017 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Forsyth, 95 West Morse Street, Forsyth, GA 31029. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
