Georgia "Joy" Freeman Allen of Forsyth, died December 29, 2016 at the Carousel House in Forsyth. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery with visitation following the service.
Mrs. Allen was born in Butts County, the daughter of the late George Harvey Freeman and the late Ida Smith Freeman. She graduated from Jackson High School and attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega. After college, she was employed at Robins Air Force Base and later became the first legal secretary in Forsyth. She was a long-time member of Forsyth First Baptist Church and served as secretary for several years. After completing courses at Tift College at the age of 72, she enrolled in history and art courses at Wesleyan College. She was a member of the Forsyth Woman's Club and the Forsyth Book Club, as well as other local organizations.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Moore and Susan Wilson (John), one grandson, James Terry Harp (Sandy), and brother Jack Freeman. Her husband of sixty-four years, Ogden Allen, predeceased her in death, as well as her brother, Donald Freeman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Carousel House, 173 S. Lee Street, Forsyth, Georgia 31029.
The family also wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff at the Carousel House.
