Dr. Wilbur Eugene Neisler passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2016, at Forsyth First Baptist Church. Dr. Dan Whitaker will officiate. Following the service, family will greet friends. Burial will be private at Forsyth City Cemetery.
A native of Taylor County, the son of the late Margaret Heath Neisler and Willie Earl Neisler, Wilbur attended schools in Butler and Reynolds. While at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Wilbur decided to become a veterinarian. He attended what was at the time the only veterinary college in the south - Auburn University. While there, he became an avid Auburn Tiger and remained so until his death.
Graduating from Auburn in 1945, Dr. Neisler moved to Hawkinsville to specialize in large animals. Eight months later, he was drawn to Monroe County because of the large number of dairies there. He quickly became as devoted to Monroe County as he was to Auburn.
In 1947, Dr. Neisler married a Forsyth girl, Betty Manelle Smith. Married for 65 years until her death in 2012, they were a loving, devoted couple.
Dr. Neisler was an active member of Forsyth First Baptist Church, serving as deacon as well as in many other capacities, always quietly ministering to the needs of others. Practicing over 60 plus years, he received numerous honors for veterinary service. However, the accolades he prized most were the love and words of appreciation from the people whose animals he cared for.
Dr. Neisler is survived by his children: Faye Neisler Melton and husband Stephen Arthur Melton, and Dr. Deck Evans Neisler and wife Brenda Bowen Neisler. Grandchildren: Blake Neisler Melton and wife Jensen Mast Melton, Laura Melton Boykin and husband Nate Austin Hosea Boykin, Dr. William Neisler Melton, Andrew Deck Neisler, Dr. Justin Bowen Neisler. Great Grandchildren: Finley Parks Melton and Asher Sloane Melton. Sisters: Mildred Neisler Smith and Janet Neisler Walton and husband David Walton.
