Barnesville….Wesley Lamar Swearingen passed away February 11, 2016. A memorial service will held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 15, 2016 at First Baptist Church of High Falls. Pastor Jeff Giddens will officiate. The family will greet friends immediately following the service. A private intermittent service will be held at a later date at the Georgia Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA.
Mr. Swearingen was born on August 30, 1948 in Barnesville, GA. His parents, Thomas “Bo” and Annie Dora Johnson Swearingen and his son, Wesley Lamar “WL” Swearingen, Jr. preceded him in death. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star and the RVN Cross of Gallantry with palms and frame. He was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracey (Myron) Purser of Forsyth; son, Thomas “TW” Swearingen of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Nicholas Henderson of Forsyth, Tyler Swearingen of Statesboro, Melissa and Hailey Swearingen of Warner Robins, great grandson, Karter Swearingen of Statesboro; sisters, Janice Smith of Thomaston, Ann (John) Kominsky of Concord and brother Ray (Joyce) Swearingen of Lake City and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
