Macon, GA – Mark Goldsworthy Winder, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Born in Bremerton, WA, Mark was the son of the late Eldon James and Mary Goldsworthy Winder. He graduated from Bremerton High School (Class of 1952) and was a Chevalier of the Order of DeMolay International before graduating from Olympic College with an Associate of Arts degree and The University of Washington, with a degree in Business Administration. He also belonged to Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He served his country in the United States Army, earning a good conduct medal, before he began a long career with Shell Oil Company in real estate, receiving numerous Shell Oil Laurel Society honors. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, sailing, golf, boating, fishing, music, the theater, all sports events and loved reading and history. He was a natural story teller, never met a stranger and had a big circle of friends. He loved the rich history of Middle Georgia, including The Allman Brothers Big House Museum and The Macon Cherry Blossom Festival. He especially enjoyed the parades. He often drove his vintage Cadillac convertible for visiting dignitaries over the years.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Adele Walker (Chuck) and Marilyn C. Winder.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Blain Winder, his brother, Lewis Winder (Margie), his daughters, Caroline Lesley (Stuart) and Cathryn Smith,(James Morgan), Jeri L. Ellis, Valerie J. Fried (Guy Sidney), his numerous grandchildren and their spouses, eight great grandchildren, a niece and two nephews.
He will be laid to rest at Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Rabbi Larry Schlesinger will officiate.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
