Forsyth . . . . Nancy Valyne Smith Mays of Forsyth went home to be with her Lord on January 15, 2016. She was born in Monroe County (Berner) Georgia on June 8, 1921, the baby sister of eight children. Her family affectionately called her “Sister” all of her life. She was primarily a home keeper, but she worked for the Monroe County School System as a teachers’ aide for a number of years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forsyth. A talented seamstress, her favorite hobby was dressing dolls in clothes that she designed and made herself. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Mays, Jr. and all of her brothers and sisters (Ouida Willis, Andrew Smith, Malcolm Smith, Virgil Smith, Harris Smith, Margaret Walton, and Hugh Smith).
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Steve Terry, and granddaughter, Valyne Terry, as well as a beloved extended family including five nieces and nephews and twenty-two great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Old Forsyth City Cemetery. Dr. H. Darrell Watson will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday night, January 17, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the donor’s favorite charity are suggested.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
