Forsyth . . . CW3 Richard Van Roberts, US Army (Ret.) passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Burial will be private. Rev. Ken Nienke of Salem, Virginia will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service.
Mr. Roberts, the son of the late John Wesley Roberts and Ellen Jeanette Burton Roberts, was born March 14, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during Vietnam; he retired from the United States Army Criminal Investigation Division Laboratory, with twenty two years of service and also retired after nineteen years of service from the Department of Forensic Science Western Laboratory, Roanoke, Virginia. He was a member of Hanging Rock Lions Club and a member of Fellowship Community Church in Salem, Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Roberts of Forsyth; children, Richard Lamar (Kati) Roberts of McDonough, Kerrie Smith of McDonough and Amanda (Josh) Reynolds of Forsyth; sister, Donna (Rusty) Bridwell of Roswell; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Parkinson Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
