Joseph Pierce Chambers
Forsyth . . . Joseph “Joe” Pierce Chambers passed away, Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Forsyth City Cemetery. Rev. Ken Stephens will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2016, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Chambers, the son of the late Rufus Pierce Chambers and Molly Wilson Chambers was born July 25, 1917, in Juliette, Georgia. His wife of seventy-eight years, Ezma Smith Chambers preceded him in death. He was retired owner and operator of Joe Chambers Sporting Goods and Joe Chambers Sinclair Station. Mr. Chambers was a school bus driver for the Monroe County School system for seventeen years. He played minor league baseball for over fifteen years. Mr. Chambers was a Master Mason with Strict Observance # 18 for sixty one years. He served two terms as Monroe County Commissioner and was a long time member of Exchange Club of Forsyth.
Survivors include his daughter and son in law, Angela and Rickey Harbuck of Forsyth; granddaughter and her husband, Dulcie and John Whitaker of Macon; several nieces and nephews; sister in law, Virginia Chambers Aaron of Forest Park.
The family requests no flowers but suggests donations to Exchange Club of Forsyth, c/o Felix King, 171 Loraine Forest Drive, Macon, GA 31210, or to Strict Observance # 18, c/o Roy Jeffries, 575 Old Union Gin Road, Forsyth, GA 31029.
