Bolingbroke . . . Harry “Red” Callaway died on December 20, 2015. Born in Bolingbroke, GA on November 25, 1927, he was the son of James Edwin and Willie Mae Davis Callaway. A graduate of Mary Persons High School, he served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Mattaponi in the Pacific Fleet as a part of the initial occupation forces in Japan after the war.
After retiring from Robins AFB, he operated a furniture restoration and refinishing business in Bolingbroke for many years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and ministered to many people through his Bible teaching at his little chapel in Bolingbroke. He can best be described as a dedicated Christian who lived in a house by the side of the road and was a friend to many.
Mr. Callaway was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Mary Herndon Callaway, his son, Dale Harry Callaway, and his siblings, Doris Callaway Gregory, William E. Callaway, and Sarah Callaway Woodham. He is survived by two sisters, Marion Callaway Peters of Bolingbroke and Mary Callaway Brown of Macon as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Bethany Baptist Church, Pea Ridge Road, Bolingbroke GA 31044, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Jimmy Corbitt presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will be at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens, Forsyth, GA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Bethany Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 539, Bolingbroke, GA 31004.
Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
