Elaine Chandler
Forsyth . . . Elaine Chandler of Forsyth, Georgia passed away September 25, 2015 due to complications of surgery.
Mrs. Chandler was the wife of Larry Chandler and the daughter of Bobbye and Aldean Singley. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Singley-Hall of Atlanta, niece, Heather Hall Jones and her husband Pat Jones of Sandy Springs, grand-nieces Hannah, Rebecca, and grand-nephew Patrick.
Elaine grew up in Macon and lived there until she retired and moved to Monroe County. Elaine taught in Monroe County for 30 years. Elaine also was an adjunct professor at Mercer University. At Mercer, she was the coordinator of the Mercer Youth Programs. She enjoyed helping children with their creative writing.
Most recently she traveled to Washington, D.C. with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and attended a White House briefing on domestic violence. Elaine had been a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs for more than 30 years. She started as a member of the GFWC Suburban Junior Woman's Club of Macon and served as Club President. She later belonged to (and served as President of) the GFWC Service Guild of Macon. In recent years she had also been an active member of the GFWC Forsyth Woman's Club, a club which Elaine's mother helped charter.
During her time as a woman's club member, Elaine served as Junior Director and later President of GFWC Georgia's Sixth District. Beginning in 2006, Elaine held state office, serving two-year terms as GFWC Georgia Treasurer, Third Vice President, Second Vice President and First Vice President/President-elect. In April of 2014, Elaine began serving what was to have been a two-year term as the President of GFWC Georgia. In that capacity, Elaine also served on the Board of Directors of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, headquartered in Washington, D. C., and on the Board of Trustees of Tallulah Falls School. Her personal platform promoted healthy living and a healthy planet.
Family will greet friends Tuesday, September 29th from 10-11am at First Baptist Church of Forsyth, 95 W Morse St, Forsyth, GA 31029. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 followed by burial at the Jackson City Cemetery. Dr. H. Darrell Watson and Rev. Mark Hudgins will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her memory to Tallulah Falls School. Donations may be made to GFWC Georgia, Elaine Chandler Scholarship, c/o GFWC Georgia, P. O. Box 39, Tallulah Falls, GA 30573.
