Forsyth . . . Thomas Harold Ivey, 64, of Forsyth passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015, after a prolonged battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Forsyth United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Dr. H. Darrell Watson, Rev. Ken Stephens and Rev. Darris Baker will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.
Tommy was born in Forsyth, Georgia to Troy and Myrtice Ivey. He was a 1969 graduate of Mary Persons High School; a four year letterman and captain of the football team. He graduated from Gordon Military College and played semi-pro football. He was named all-conference offensive lineman of the year. He served in the Georgia National Guard where he developed the reputation of Grill Master. Tommy retired in 2008 from Southern National Gas Company/El Paso Gas after thirty six years of service. He started his own lawn care business in 2000. Tommy was an avid outdoorsman including hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Tommy’s biggest love was his family. He is survived by his wife of forty three years, Nelle Murray Ivey of Forsyth; children, Chris (Dr. Jill Lancaster) Ivey and Jay (Kim) Ivey of Forsyth; brother, Barry Ivey of Monticello; and two glorious granddaughters, Emily and Anna, whom he adored. He had a wonderful extended family to include numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
