Rev. Alec Frasier Thompson of Forsyth, age 88, died Thursday, December 18, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Forsyth on Saturday, December 20, 2014, followed by graveside services at 4:00 p.m. at the Thompson Family Cemetery in Ailey, GA. Visitation will be held at Monroe County Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 19, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Rev. Thompson was the pastor of Southern Baptist churches in North Carolina and Georgia from 1944 to 2013. His pastorates were West Millen Baptist Church, Millen, GA.; Smithville Baptist Church, Smithville, GA; First Baptist Church, Lithonia, GA; National Avenue Baptist Church, New Bern, NC; First Baptist Church, Beaufort, NC; Woodland Hills Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA; Grove Level Baptist Church, Dalton, GA; and Clayton Baptist Church, Clayton, GA. He also served as interim pastor for three middle-Georgia churches after retiring from the full-time pastorate: Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Bolingbroke; Tattnall Square Baptist Church, Macon; and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Forsyth. He was supply pastor for many other area churches after moving to Forsyth in 1990. Rev. Thompson was a graduate of Brewton-Parker College, Mt. Vernon, GA., Mercer University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC. He served in leadership positions and on numerous committees for local Baptist associations and the Georgia Baptist Convention. Rev. Thompson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ernestine Prescott Thompson, from Millen, GA. and by their children, Mary Barton, Jonesboro; Norma Thompson, Macon; Ernie Thompson (Pat), Barnesville; and Joe Thompson, Forsyth. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Ross Barton, Cleveland, Ohio; Carly Thompson, South Bend, Indiana; Krista Thompson, Barnesville; Courtney (Kevin)McBroom, Columbia, SC; Eric (Jessica) Thompson Macon and Daniel (Allison)Thompson, Forsyth, and by great-grandchildren, Tyler Connell, Barnesville, Carys Thompson, Macon, Joey, Anna, and Phil Thompson, Forsyth. His sisters, Louise Braddy, Tarrytown; Myrt Johnson, Cartersville, Melba (Carl) Lehman, Lithia Springs, and Marian (Clyde) Dunn, Milner, also survive him, as do several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Trudie Walker Thompson; brothers, Ed, Wade, Ray, and Don; and sister, Evelyn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glenn John Thompson Scholarship Fund at Brewton-Parker College, Mt. Vernon, GA; McAfee School of Theology of Mercer University; Woodland Hills Baptist Church, Reaching the Goal Fund, 1084 Woodland Ave., SE, Atlanta, GA 30316; First Baptist Church, Forsyth; or the Alzheimer’s Association. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
