Ann Gilbert Jelks

Jelks, Ann Gilbert “Misty” was born on May 5, 1924 in Atlanta, GA. She grew up in Jacksonville, FL. spending her summers in Forsyth, GA, she loved hosting dance parties on her front porch under the watchful eyes of her parents, Seabie & Emily Gilbert. She attended Stetson University where she pledged Delta Delta Delta Sorority and graduated with an education degree. Ann & her husband, Tom lived a true love story of 72+ yrs. After meeting Tom, in high school & marrying later in 1947, Ann taught second grade and then retired to raise her two children Tom and Emily. After the Jelks family settled in Tampa in 1953, Ann became very active in her community. She was a 50+ yr member of Beach Park Women’s Club (President 1972-‘74) and Tampa Bay Women’s Club (Busy Fingers) as well as an avid volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Ann also made time to take an active role in raising her granddaughter, Jennie. She was a devoted wife of 65 yrs prior to Tom’s passing Oct. 20th 2012, & a loving mother & grandmother. Ann passed peacefully, joining her Heavenly Father for eternity on Nov. 4, 2014. She will be greatly missed until we meet again on that glorious day. Ann was preceded in death by her son, Tom Jr. She is survived by her daughter Emily, her son-in-law, Rick Lancor, her granddaughter, Jennie and her husband, Trent Cate. The family wants to thank the whole team at The Grand Court for all their love, honesty, caring hearts & patience. A Celebration will be at 3 pm Mon. Nov 10th with a Memorial Service following at 4 pm at Brewer & Sons Funeral Home 3328 S Dale Mabry Hwy Tampa. A graveside service will be held in Waycross, GA at Lott Cemetary on Nov. 10, 2014. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ann’s name to Hope Children’s Home 11415 Hope International Dr. Tampa.
