Cecil1a Virginia Stevens

October 19, 1937 — September 14, 2014

Cecilia Virginia Stevens Macon . . . . Cecilia Virginia Stevens passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014. Born October 19, 1937 in Savannah, Georgia, she was predeceased by her parents Cecil Barney Stevens and Leila Virginia Cason Stevens of Dublin and by her son Gilbert Mathew Patten III. Ms. Stevens attended the Peabody Laboratory School in Milledgeville and was a 1955 graduate of Dublin High School. She was further educated at Georgia State College for Women, Valdosta State College, and Georgia Southern College. Well read, Ms. Stevens will be remembered for her intellect and jolly sense of humor. She was a gifted person in many ways. She could easily do mathematical computations that confounded others. She could draw and write. She could design elegant dresses and fit them beautifully. She was generous with her talents, tailoring prom dresses for girls and business attire for women friends who needed just the right ensemble for an important occasion. She freely offered her wisdom and insight to friends, family and strangers. She shared her worldly goods with others, giving money for gasoline and groceries to those less fortunate than she, finding household goods and clothing for single mothers, and lending her car to those without transportation. Services will be private. In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Stevens’ ashes will be sprinkled this fall amongst the beautiful fall foliage in the north Georgia mountains, along her beloved seashore at Tybee Island, and finally near the burial site of her son Matt in Adel. She is survived by son Richard Andrew Patten and his wife Nancy Lieck Patten of Forsyth, treasured granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Patten also of Forsyth, son Timothy Patten of Macon, brother Richard Osborne Stevens of Atlanta, and sister Barbara Stevens Henry and her husband Waymond L. Henry, Col, USAF (ret) of Cumming, GA. Other survivors include niece Cynthia Stevens of Michigan, and nephews Wesley Stevens of Florida, Dane Waymond Henry of Duluth, and Steven Duncan Henry of Atlanta. Several grandnieces and grandnephews also survive. The family expresses gratitude to the doctors and staff at Georgia Cancer Specialists in Macon and to the Bone & Marrow Transplant Group of Georgia at Northside Hospital in Atlanta for joining the battle with Cecilia and seeing her along this 2½ year journey. The compassionate care provided at the end by Heartland hospice in Macon is gratefully acknowledged. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
