Leon Franklin “Monk” Speir Juliette . . . Leon Franklin “Monk” Speir passed away Monday, September 15, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with burial in Monroe Memorial Gardens. Mark Goolsby will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel. Mr. Speir, the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Speir and Lucy Lee Cornwell Speir was born March 8, 1937, in Barnesville, Georgia. His sisters, Helen Stuart and Gertrude Bryant, his brother Comer “Mutt” Speir and his great granddaughter, Adilyn Music preceded him in death. He was retired from Bibb Company. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Speir of Juliette; children, Jason (JoAnn Owens) Speir of Juliette, Regina (Steven) Sikes of Forsyth, Ricky (Tammy Stewart) Worth of Forsyth, Gwen (Greg) Music of Forsyth and Gary Speir of Milledgeville; sisters, Nonie (Tommy) Hunnicutt of Forsyth and Lois Wallace of Warner Robins; brother, Ben “Popcorn” (Judy) Speir of Juliette; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Pine Pointe, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
