VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTEOpal McCain Shannon Sandy Springs . . . Opal McCain Shannon, 95, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014, following a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with interment in the Shannon Family Cemetery at Cabaniss Baptist Church. Dr. Mark Grinsted will officiate. The family will greet friends at Monroe County Memorial Chapel from 11:00 a.m., until the hour of the funeral. Mrs. Shannon, the daughter of the late Wylie and Mamie McCain was born December 21, 1918, in Temple. Georgia. Her husband, Carey Merton Shannon, her daughter, Sally Louise Shannon and her son, Joseph McCain Shannon preceded her in death. Mrs. Shannon was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who donated her tireless time to her church, Cabaniss Baptist. Survivors include her son, Stephen John Shannon (Vicki) of Big Canoe, Georgia; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201, in Opal’s memory or a charity of choice. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
