Robert L. Roshong April 19, 1919 – April 6, 2014Robert L. Roshong, age 94, father of Diane M. Craine of Forsyth, and Jane Buie and Rob Roshong of Houston ,Texas died of complications of pneumonia on Sunday April 6, 2014. Born in Canton, Ohio, Bob was married to his high school sweetheart, Marie (Dee) Bishop for 68 years before she passed away in 2008. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Phil Roshong in 2012. A previous resident of Pike County as well as Houston, Texas, Bob recently had lived at Pinegate in Macon where he was actively engaged in life.Bob graduated from Ohio State University in 1941. While there he played trombone in the famous OSU marching band when they first performed the Script OHIO. Bob was an accomplished musician who played trombone with the likes of the Glen Miller and Benny Goodman bands in the 1940’s. While music was his avocation, his vocation was as a metallurgical engineer who developed the metals used in Texas oil rigs as well as the APOLLO spaceships which carried astronauts to the moon. He traveled extensively world-wide for his work. Bob served as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea, making torpedoes as well as munitions. He was stationed at various naval bases ranging from Attu, Alaska to Key West Florida. Bob is survived by a sister, Vera Schreiber of Pinellas Park Florida, seven Grandchildren, Meg (Charles) Woody, Becky (Tre) Howard, Brett (Courtney) Craine, Michelle Winningham, Wendy (Kyle) Leek, Katie Hall, Steve (Rachael) Roshong, seventeen Great Grandchildren and two Great-Great Grandbabies.Bob will be sorely missed by his family even as we know he is now dancing with Dee to a favorite Glen Miller tune in heaven.A memorial service will be held Friday April 18 at 11am in the chapel of Forsyth United Methodist Church.Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
