Elizabeth Smyer Pace
Forsyth . . . Elizabeth Smyer Pace, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Pine Pointe Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with burial in the old section of Riverside Cemetery. Dr. H. Darrell Watson will officiate. The family will greet friends the day of the service at 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Monroe County Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Pace, the daughter of the late Claude and Ruby Haithcock Smyer, was born January 4, 1923, in Durham, North Carolina. She was the widow of Bruce Ralph Pace, Jr. They were happily married for forty-six years until his death in 1990. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great friend. After raising her family she worked many happy years at Children’s Sesame in Macon, caring for infants. Mrs. Pace loved her family, friends, church family and her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Shurlington Baptist Church in Macon, now known as Greenwood Baptist Church. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, Goldtimers and the Senior Choir. She also loved reading, gospel and Christian music and all church functions.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her beloved daughter, Mrs. Bettye P. Whitmire and son, Donald William (Bill) Pace and his wife Pam all of Forsyth. She is survived by three grandchildren, Mrs. Candice (Raymond) Smith of Gray, Bradley Ryan Pace and Leigh Elizabeth Pace, both of Macon and two great grandsons, Kyle A. Morris and Ryan D. Smith both of Gray. Other survivors include best friends, Inez Owens and Vera Yawn and dear friend and caregiver, Carol Battle.
