Elizabeth Cheatham Hockett VanHoy
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 of Elizabeth Cheatham Hockett VanHoy of High Falls, Georgia. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, she passed away quietly with her husband by her side. She was 72.
Born in 1941, in Griffin, Georgia to Robert Wycliffe Cheatham and Sarah Baldwin Jones, She was a very resilient woman who overcame a learning disability to earn a Bachelors degree in Psychology. After earning her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education, she chose to teach elementary school in the most underserved school in her county. She was often called a Universal Mother, having helped care for children and young adults tirelessly, through acts of service, love and good food. Her sharp wit, perseverance, homemade cornbread, and unconditional love will be sorely missed.
